    Matt Freitag

Matt joined his freshman year and has had a positive impact on our team through his skiing and leadership. This season, we consistently counted on him to put up big scores for each event, has worked hard to become one of our top 3-eventers as a junior, and got 5th overall at conferences. He works hard in the offseason, on and off the water, by working to get stronger, seeking coaching from ski schools, going to summer tournaments, and every practice opportunity. He has helped to create ski opportunities for our team like arranging a club sports truck to tow the boat to the river and dedicated a lot of his time to our ski practices. He planned our annual team summer camping trip to SIU’s lake instead of the UP this year so that we could get practice on a course and jump before the season. He is a teammate that we can always count on with his dedication to the sport and the team!

    Zach Spahn

Zach was the women’s captain for gv this season. This was the first year that our team had captains, and as co-captain, Zach was great to work with and set the women’s captain position up well for our future team. He spent the off-season successfully helping to set up some more course opportunities. He was helpful on the boat through his coaching and pointers at practices during the summer and the season. He led through example by going on ski trips, summer tournaments, and consistent 3-event practice. He was fair with lineups and gave each member a chance. He got injured skiing during our season and was unable to be at our last two tournaments, but he still kept up with how everyone skied at practices and tournaments and helped with captain responsibilities. Although he wasn’t able to be at Regionals, he still showed his support for our skiers by writing personalized motivational notecards for each our girl skiers. He helped to create a competitive yet supportive team environment!

    Jalin Olson

Jalin from gv had great senior season and became one of our most valuable skiers. She skied every chance she could get this summer and it showed this season in all three events! She locked down a 650+ pt run and sent it off the ramp with big stomps every tournament. With our team’s limited access to a slalom course, she took every opportunity she could get on the course and got it before the season! She podiumed 2nd for overall and trick and 3rd in jump at allentucky, 3rd for overall and trick at ripfest, and 5th in trick at conferences! Jalin’s dedication to the team led to a lot of our team points, and she overall had an awesome senior season!

    Evan Williams

Evan had a great season his first season on the team as a junior, but he stepped it up his senior year and became one of our most valuable 3-event skiers. He was our 4 for 4 for 4 (4th round for each event). We needed more guy jumpers this season, so he jumped for the first time at the jump clinic right before the season. He progressed quickly to single cutting, and we could count on big stomps from him every tournament. He consistently slalomed close to his best every tournament. He is a well-rounded skier, but he especially excelled in trick this season. After his dedication this summer, he locked down his flip. He stomped it when we needed it most at both conferences and regionals. He tied for second place for trick at conferences this season. Evan had a very successful senior season and greatly contributed to our team’s score in every tournament!

    Kincaid Devenport

Kincaid from gvsu brought such good energy to our team. He spent hours every day driving the boat for our practices, and he dedicated that time fully to bettering the team. Whether that practice, you needed coaching or just a laugh, you could always count on him. His role on our team was especially important since he was running practice the most. He created a positive environment and picked us up if we were discouraged on a bad day. He welcomed our new members and made them better skiers with his patience in practice and positive attitude. He was at every tournament and stayed to support every skier. He was there to send us off the dock with our song or motivation and met us after to grab our skies no matter how we skied. He was a consistently good teammate throughout the whole season!

    Sydnie Lipski

Sydnie is a freshman on gvsu and joined never trying a slalom course before or riding on a trick ski. After only a few tries on the slalom course, she was already running it. She was a natural at trick and got an O the first time she tried it. It’s amazing how quickly she progressed with the limited time that she had on the course and just learning to trick during the season. She already loved to ski before she joined but we saw her love for the sport and dedication to the team grow throughout the season! She is going to be a very important skier for gv in the future!
