Ellie Williams helped UMICH win D2 nationals this year by doing what she does best and maintaining composure in high pressure situations taking 2nd overall!! We were on the brink of losing before her slalom run last off the dock at benettes.

Mason Letcher has been a contributing member of the A team since his freshman year and consistently challenges his boundaries. Despite his injuries, Mason remained determined to overcome obstacles. Following a successful recovery, he resumed jumping in the current season. In his senior year, Mason earned a spot in the Century Club, achieving an impressive 102-foot jump that secured him a noteworthy 3rd place in the Miami Waterski Records. His skill extends beyond jumping. He shows other skills from his 2nd place position in the Miami waterski slalom record, accomplishing two buoys at 36 mph 35 off. Beyond his accomplishments, Mason plays a pivotal role in nurturing the growth of our team. His dedication shines through in supporting new members, mentoring, and contributing significantly to the team’s overall success.

Mary Nelson plays a vital role in Miami Waterski’s story this year, emerging as the supreme skier for the women’s team across all three events. Her skill in waterskiing has been reflected in her commanding positions on the all-time leaderboard. Nelson’s numerical achievements display her exceptional talent and dedication, a stellar performance of 2@34 mph (32 off) in slalom, a trick score of 940 points, and an outstanding jump of 62 feet. These remarkable accomplishments have propelled Miami to a historic tie for their best finish in team history. Her proficiency on the water has put her name into the Miami record books and shaped Miami’s life in competitive skiing. Not only did she perform off the water, but she performed off the water as well. Mary took on the role of our team’s president this past season. She was a strong leader that led us to a season of success and fun!

Matt Freitag is one of the best overall skiers for grand valley this year. We knew that we could always count on him to put up the numbers we needed. His coaching and the love that he has for growing and supporting our team will carry on. He has taught so many of us to become better skiers and was constantly helping us learn new skills overall. Whether that be him helping us nail down a new trick or jump an extra foot. He knew how to help us grow to be better skiers this year.

Tanner Spitzer continuously held his position performing at par and higher at every tournament for KU. His consistent scores helped out our team a lot during this past season. He is a solid team leader as well and is always great at giving advice to people before they go on the water.

    Matt Freitag

Matt joined his freshman year and has had a positive impact on our team through his skiing and leadership. This season, we consistently counted on him to put up big scores for each event, has worked hard to become one of our top 3-eventers as a junior, and got 5th overall at conferences. He works hard in the offseason, on and off the water, by working to get stronger, seeking coaching from ski schools, going to summer tournaments, and every practice opportunity. He has helped to create ski opportunities for our team like arranging a club sports truck to tow the boat to the river and dedicated a lot of his time to our ski practices. He planned our annual team summer camping trip to SIU’s lake instead of the UP this year so that we could get practice on a course and jump before the season. He is a teammate that we can always count on with his dedication to the sport and the team!

    Aidan Hughes
Aidan is the most dedicated skier I have met throughout my two years in the collegiate ski scene. He takes any opportunity to improve in all three events and his scores from the past scene reflect that. He came in first place in all three events on several occasion with room to spare. While he is a fantastic skier alone, he enjoys coaching others with his advanced knowledge. He takes new members out to practice and he enjoys seeing other succeed. With him being a Capitan on our team this year, there is no stopping him from helping and coaching our team to nationals.

Oh and he set the new Midwest collegiate trick record.

Alex from SIU was really a top scorer and put a lot of time and points up for us. He has improved a ton with his trick run and just over the past fall it was awesome to see. His jumps were pretty stellar at around 90 and I think he deserves recognition for his hard work!

Alex put up a ton of points this year and was overall our best skier. He put in a lot of work to consistently land his flips for trick, work on his 3/4 cuts, and beat pb’s for slalom. All of his achievements rubbed off on them team to make themselves better skiers.
