ParticipantNebraska easily stands to earn the “Team of the Year” award. While Nebraska lost very few seniors through the last couple of years we have still been working an growing. In the previous season (2022), UNL qualified for the national tournament, for the first time in history! The qualification in 2022 was only through the wildcard tournament. In 2023, the team has grown, pushed, and worked extremely hard to achieve the season they have. While blazing through the season, Nebraska managed to grow their team, get an automatic bid for nationals, and grow closer together. Yes, we had massive improvements in our scores individually and as a team, but this will only continue for years to come.

ParticipantAllison Hinrichs, we all know her and love her. She is single handedly the most supportive alumni any team could ask for, and Nebraska was lucky enough to have. Allison has supported Nebraska ever since she took the step from student to alumni. While working on applications for further education she has managed to also work at Bennetts waterski school to prepare and produce the national tournament. On the other side of that, Allie never stopped communicating with at least one member of the team. While she couldn’t physically be there for us throughout the season, Allie was able to mentally be there for the team and support us. She constantly made sure to run scores from all tournaments this fall season to help provide confidence going into the national tournament. While at the national tournament that Allison was running, she did her best to cheer on the team and provided as much support as anyone could ask from her.
Without Allison Hinrichs the Nebraska Waterski Club would not have gotten as far as we have this season. We love you, and thank you, Allie!

ParticipantThe University of Nebraska Lincoln would like to nominate Jacob Ocholik for the Most Outstanding Senior Male. Jacob was a solid member of the Nebraska team and never failed to help even when he wasn’t asked. Jacob completed all of our physical labor projects even down to the team flagpole. Jacob was the best sport when it came to helping prepare for home tournaments. We appreciate everything Jacob has done to support the University over the years.

ParticipantThe University of Nebraska-Lincoln would like to nominate Jackie Lovci for the Rookie of the Year award. She has been an incredible addition to our team. Her on the water success is unmatchable, yet still overshadowed by her character off the water. She shows more support for our team than about any other member. It took her less than a week to learn how to run the course, she also landed her first jump she ever attempted.

ParticipantThe University of Nebraska-Lincoln would like to nominate Lucia Ossi as the best team captain. Lu took on the job last spring as our men’s team captain and never failed to show up to tournaments and practices. Lucia supported all of our guys on and off the water, from making sure they had their equipment to congratulating them after they skied.

Allison has been with the team for 5.5 years in which she has supported the team in every way possible. ParticipantThe University of Nebraska-Lincoln would like to nominate Sam Weber as the most valuable skier. Sam easily demolished records previously held by members on the University of Nebraska Lincoln team. While making it to nationals for the first time he managed to get himself in a two-way tie and won in the slalom event and scoring some major team points. While Sam’s scores have been helpful on the water, he has been a major leader off the water. He served as the team president and oversaw all of the achievements covered in the Team Nomination

ParticipantWe would like to nominate The University of Nebraska-Lincoln. This team has made extraordinary strides in the last 12 months. For the first time in school history we qualified for the National Championship tournament via the wildcard tournament. The team preformed incredibly well and placed far above their expected seed. We had 37 recorded personal bests throughout the season. In addition to our on the water performance, we have made amazing advancements to how our team is organized. We restructured the payment system for all Recreational Sports Organizations within the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Campus Rec. The team received the largest sum of money ever given to a Recreational Sports Organization at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. All of these incredible achievements have been done with an all freshman board.

ParticipantJamie Disterhaupt,
While just starting jumping this season Jamie has conquered her fear of making the ramp. I have watched her jump many times and seen improvements. I feel like it has to happen once to each skier and It won’t be long until she gets to meet the side curtain.Mandy Lawson
ParticipantAllison Hinricks,
I came from the Missouri State waterski team this semester. Allie has been hands down the most welcoming person making sure I felt included in all of the events. She works hard and is very deserving of this award because of her true care and solid judgment. She pushes all of our teammates to be better and get out of their comfort zone.

ParticipantSummer Lawson,
While Missouri state was working on restarting the program, Summer was supportive and always one phone call away. She showed up to do work around Lake Freddie while helping set up and tear down the tournament. She helped with safety during our first tournament and assisted any of the judges when it was necessary. She was always right onshore to cheer on skiers and help pull them out of the water. She was an outstanding helper for the Missouri State team.

ParticipantSam Weber,
I feel like this one is self explanitory haha.

ParticipantDaniel Murdy,
To give a little bit of backstory I was a freshman on the Missouri State Ski team this year and had absolutely no idea what I was doing. For unforeseen circumstances, I became president right before the fall showdown tournament, Dan was the most influential helper I could ask for. Any time I had a question about what a team should do, or how to do anything on the USA waterski site. He helped me without question. Dan has worked hard to support the UNL ski team and grow it as much as he has, he is most deserving of this “Most outstanding senior male” position.
