Regionals 2013

The Kansas Jayhawks surprised the Midwest region by jumping up and taking their first Midwest Regional Title in over 20 years! It was a dominant women’s team that carried the Jayhawks to the title by a very slim 95 point margin over the charging Bearcats of Cincinnati.

Dylan Brittain of Kansas pulled in the top trick score of the tournament, 3rd place in jump and 1st overall. On the women’s side, the Jayhawks had 2 girls in the top 5, with Katie O’Connor in 2nd and Mary Hamilton in 4th.

The story of the tournament besides the Jayhawks winning their first regional title in a long time, was the Lakers of Grand Valley State who have earned their first National Championship birth by earning 5th place. The Lakers had their hearts broken last year by coming in third at the Wildcard Tournament, missing an invite to nationals by just a few points. This year they put it all together and won it at Regionals all on their own. Also, the upstart Michigan State Spartans have also earned a trip to the National Championships for the first time in 10 years.

The top 5 teams punch a ticket to Nationals in San Diego California. Those 5 teams are:
1. Kansas Jayhawks
2. Cincinnati Bearcats
3. Miami (OH) Redhawks
4. Michigan State Spartans
5. Grand Valley State Lakers

The Midwest will also send their next three eligible teams to the Wildcard Tournament, which will take place on Monday October 7, at 7:00pm CST.
Those 3 teams are:
Iowa State Cyclones
Purdue Boilermakers
Wisconsin Badgers

Wisconsin LaCrosse has taken their name out of contention for Nationals.
