To get better at anything, it takes consistent practice. Trial and error. Failing and overcoming those failures. In water skiing, this is especially true – the number of times you have to fall on each new trick is often a serious barrier to an individual’s progress.

Who do you think was the most improved skier over the past season? It could be a team or an individual!

Ohio University- OU has been working hard to grow their team and this year made it to Regionals for the first time in 20 years! Furthermore, at Regionals, their women’s slalom team place 5th. They increased the size of their team a lot by encouraging skiers of all skill levels and helping make the team more financially accessible.

In his freshman year, Braylen Lynch emerged as a newcomer to waterskiing. Despite being relatively new to the sport, Braylen distinguished himself as the most dedicated member of our team, investing considerable effort throughout the summer and the season, even at the expense of skipping numerous classes. His relentless hard work paid off. Braylen went from never putting on skis to achieving a trick run of over 1000 and a jump over 80 feet. Braylen has demonstrated dedication and remarkable capabilities on the water, achieving milestones that typically require a more protracted timeframe. Braylen did it in just one short year. Also, during practice, he just tried slalom and was able to run a course after a few tries. He has been a great team member on and off the water.

The University of Wisconsin La Crosse has increased their team size greatly this year and truly each and every skier made insane amounts of progress. Our team spent countless hours learning as much as possible at practices while keeping up with our college careers which meant lots of homework in between practice sets. Not only did our A team skiers show up at tournaments our B team skiers worked their butts off as well. We taught many team members how to ski and introduced them to this sport we love so dearly. Our team finished 3rd overall at regionals and went to D1 nationals this year which is a HUGE improvement for us. Many of our skiers went from never going off the jump to landing their first jump and cutting at the ramp! While others successfully ran trick passes for the first time ever at tournaments! Lastly we had some serious slalom improvements as well. I hope you consider our team for most improved as we will continue to grow and share our love for this amazing sport!

Rachel Bell was a new skier in her freshman year to the collegiate waterski world. She never ran a pass, put on trick skis, or went off the jump. Over the course of her sophomore year, she not only ran a course but is touching 30 mph 15 off. She now has a PB of 55.5 buoys in the tournament. Along with her progress in slalom, she also accomplished landing her first jump and jumped 45ft at nationals. Our team is excited to see what will come as Rachel approaches the year. Her resilience, progressing skills, and wholehearted contributions to the team create a foundation for the chapters that await in her waterskiing journey at Miami.
