ParticipantI also nominate Aidan Hughes from Michigan State. In addition to what Zach said, Aidan is a very reliable skier and always performs well in all 3 events. Throughout the season he continued to improve his scores and helped coach some of our skiers as well.

ParticipantI would like to nominate Michigan State’s Alaina Barnhart for the hardest worker. When Alaina joined the team last year, she had never slalom skied, trick skied, or jumped before. She can now run the course, do a couple tricks and she is one of our top women jumpers. Alaina doesn’t have a ski course at her house, but she works hard to finds several connections and ways to constantly be improving her skiing at home and when she is here on campus. She attends camps and trips that our team takes so she can ski as much as possible. Alaina works hard during practices and during the season, on and off the water. Alaina’s hard work can be seen just from comparing her stats when she joined, to her stats now. Off the water, Alaina is always providing input to make our team better. She works hard at recruiting events and comes up with many ways to fundraise for our team, all for her love of collegiate waterskiing!

ParticipantI would like to nominate Zach Koone for best team captain. Zach was Michigan State’s women’s captain and he put his whole heart into supporting our women’s team. Zach focused on making sure the women’s team had the coaching they needed during practices as well as at tournaments. He put a lot of thought into the running orders so each of our skiers could perform to the best of their ability. Zach never missed a skier going off the dock and always made sure equipment was handled. Zach took on all the stress for our women’s team during the whole season so all that the women needed to worry about was skiing hard and having fun!

ParticipantI would also like to nominate Michigan State’s Waterski Team for team of the year. Our team worked extremely hard during the season to perform well at qualifying tournaments, such as Regionals. As a team, we had 12 personal bests (as Zach mentioned). This high number of PB’s shows the improvement we made as a team leading up to this point. We continued this hard work into Nationals and placed 2nd in D2 (which is 3 places higher than last year).
