I would like to nominate Bryce Fongers from Grand Valley for the most improved skier award. Bryce is a very diligent individual when it comes to benefiting himself as well as the team as a whole when in competition. He would always be looking for advice from different people to better his skills (shout out Drew BudLight) and ever since Bennetts 2024 he is now an all around skier. Even though he chose to preserve his knees this season and didn’t compete jump, Bryce worked endless hours on trick during the majority of the off season, as well as in-season practices, and it SHOWED. His highest PB this season was a score of 630 points after not being able to complete a SIDE SLIDE in May of 2024. This alone shows how much time he dedicated to his improvement, which is why he is one of the most suited candidates for this award.

I would like to nominate Southern Illinois University for the Team of the Year Award. I have had the privilege to watch this team grow over the past two years that I’ve been a college student, and I have to say this team was great to watch this season! The improvement in all the athletes showed NUMBERS this year especially since they were able to make it nationals for the first time in club history this past season. Not only were they a great team on the water, but they were great people as well. They were a very humble, and fun group to be round this season at every single tournament. Vote SIU for team of the year because they are MOST deserving of it.

I would like to nominate Matt Frietag from Grand Valley for the Outstanding Senior Male Award. Matt has been a great asset to our team this year by being a highly consistent teammate in all 3 events. Even though jump was his strong suit, Matt always made sure he gave time to all three events to benefit the team in the best way possible. Not only was Matt a great skier, but also an amazing president. He was very organized when it came to team planning, keeping connections with our practice lake, and sending out important information to the team. Additionally, Matt is a very humble, kind, and encouraging person to be around no matter the setting which is why he is best suited to win this award.

I would like to nominate Luke Waslo from Grand Valley for the “Most likely to Hit the Side Curtain Award” For those of you who don’t know, Luke is a freshman who is willing to try most things that are thrown at him…one of them including jump. At Allentucky this past year, luke tried jump for the first time that weekend and almost earned biggest crash of the weekend by doing about 3/4 of a somersault sideways off of big red. Luckily Luke was a-okay, but his big fail off of big red will be the most memorable.

I would like to nominate Jalin Olsen (alumni of GVSU waterski) for most supportive alumni. Jalin has always had a great heart and is willing to help out whenever she was needed. In my freshman year, whenever I wasn’t confident in trying something she always gave me more confidence to try whatever it was I was scared of. Not only did she help me out as a freshman, but she also gave guidance to the new freshman this year as well which is what any alumni should do for an athlete on their team. Jalin’s actions never go unnoticed when it comes to support which is why she is a great nominee for this award.

I would like to nominate Megan Fischette from Grand Valley for most valuable skier. Megan has been one of the biggest contributors to the team this year. She was one of our top scoring three event skiers on the team as well as placing in overalls at every local competition this past season. Not only was she a great skier this season, but she was a GREAT role model to all the freshman that joined this past season. She showed that it’s not just about how well you do, but how much fun you have doing it. As well as being a great role model she also always fulfilled her duties as a captain no matter how many complications we had with skier registration and safe sport, she was always very patient with peoples questions and always tried to find the best solutions to problems. Without Megan I feel like our team would not be where it is today, which is why she is one of the most deserving candidates for most valuable skier.
