Jose Louis Tejada – Purdue
No question Jose is the best all around skier in the midwest and is by far the most deserving of this award. No matter the weather conditions, Jose is always going to perform at a high level. Jose won trick in every tournament this fall including nationals, he won jump in every midwest tournament and took second in D2 nationals, then in slalom he either took first or second in each tournament and then tied for 5th in D2 nationals. These stats just describe domination. Easily the most valuable skier to be in the midwest.

Hunter DuffyParticipantEvan Marcus – LAX
Even though he never actually hit the side curtain this year, Evan Marcus is always willing to push the limits, and the corner, to get the big jump. This kid also never passes up on a jump. He was able to make it into the century club before he ever passed on a jump. I think after watching him ski for the past three years I have only seen him pass a total of one time. This just shows he is always going to be an exciting skier to watch. If you saw his jump at nationals in San Marcos you’d know what I mean, talk about a gnarly jump. Evan will always be someone to push the limits, aiming for white and hoping for red, willing to risk his body at whatever costs to where I believe earns the right as Most Likely to Hit The Side Curtain.

Without a doubt the most worthy skier for this award. Jose skied amazing this past year and that shows with not only winning mens overall at conference, regionals, and nationals but he also recently won NCWSA athlete of the year. Easily the most valuable skier in the midwest.
Hunter DuffyParticipantClaire Hansel – OSU
The past summer I had the privilege to work and ski with Claire everyday. Over the summer she improved a huge amount that led her to have an outstanding senior season. This season, Claire became very familiar with the podium. At conference she individually placed first in trick, jump, and overall which led her team to winning conference! The next weekend at regionals she placed 2nd in trick, 1st in jump, and 2nd overall which also led her team to winning the regionals! To be able to perform at this high of level each weekend and dominate numerous tournaments throughout the midwest, she easily has earned the most outstanding senior female award!
Hunter DuffyParticipantEvan Marcus – La Crosse
Over the past two years I’ve been lucky to have the opportunity to ski with Evan everyday and watch him improve his skills. Last year, Evan finished off his freshman season being a solid 3-event skier but he believed that he wanted to take his skills to the next level and that’s exactly what he did. He was able to heavily improve his scores in not just one event but all three. In jump, he was able to improve his PB from 71 feet last year to joining the century club and jumping 103 feet, that’s over a 30ft improvement in one year. This is a huge improvement in just one year, especially when LAX does not have a jump at our practice site where we can practice long distance jumping! In trick, he ended last year with a PB of 770 points and this year at nationals he was able to break the 1000 point barrier with a pass worth 1,040. In slalom he ended last season with a PB of 2@22off 36mph. He ended this last season with a best of 3@28off 36mph. Improving your personal best by over a full pass in one season is not an easy thing to do. Evan has put in so much time and effort to learn more and more about the 3-event world. He has improved an amazing amount this previous season and he is someone that is more than qualified to earn this award.
Hunter DuffyParticipantNikki Weber – Mo State
Nikki has improved quite a bit in the jump event over the past fews years. To get the top of the ranking’s list you need to push your limits sometimes… and that’s exactly what she did at the Hawkeye Ski Fest tournament this past fall. For whoever was there, I’m sure you heard about Nikki’s jump set. She was wanting to push her limits by go later this set and that’s exactly what she did. She went a little too late. Her jumpers did not make it onto the ramp leading her to crush the side certain and body slamming the top of the ramp then doing a full on 360 in the air while her body was sideways. Personally, I’ve seen a good amount of crashes this season that could potentially receive this award, but after seeing Nikki’s crash, in my eyes. she has easily earned the name of Team Midwest’s Most Likely to Hit the Side Certain.
