ParticipantI would like to nominate Ethan Jost for Most Outstanding Senior Male. Not only is Ethan an incredible skier with a lightning quick onside (Pro comparison: Brando Caruso’s 3 ball at Miami Pro last year iykyk), and the most jumps landed while wearing jeans in all of the Midwest, he is also an incredible person. If you’ve spent any time around him you know that everybody calls him Smiley, for his relentless optimism and joyful attitude he brings to everything he does. Smiley during his college career spent two years as our club president, during which he brought our club from 10 members to 30 and put in countless hours and sleepless nights into making Iowa State the best team that we could be. He has also been one of our boat drivers for several years and he spends every single day on the water coaching and driving for hours at a time. He has sacrificed countless sets of his own for the sake of others and he has pulled at least 90% of the PRs on our team. His passion, his attention to detail, and his constant enthusiasm are qualities that I believe make Ethan “Smiley” Jost a perfect candidate for Most Outstanding Senior Male.

ParticipantI believe that Iowa State University should be selected as the MCWSA team of the year. Despite being unable to compete, Iowa State continues to grow as a team, improve as skiers, and stay active in the ski community year after year. After a couple down years in membership due to difficulty recruiting because of the loss of support from our university, this year we added 15 new members! Come march, our team of now nearly 30, will be on the water every day working hard to be the best skiers we can be. Not for pride, trophies, or individual and team recognition, but simply because we love to ski. We now have a full men’s and women’s team who can stomp jumps from bumps to double cuts, rip buoys up to 32 off, and land a wide variety of tricks. Not to mention, we stay active through leadership and support roles with multiple certified judges and boat drivers as well as strong current member representation on both the Great Plains and Midwest boards. We also continue to host Great Plains Conference every year. A little over two years ago, this team lost their sport club status with the university and was ripped from the ranks of the competitive teams. Membership dwindled, support was lost, and the future looked bleak for a team that has been around nearly 40 years. Now, thanks to the dedication and perseverance of everyone on the team, we are a strong team with a bright future, competitive or not. That is why I strongly believe Iowa State is deserving of MCWSA team of the year.

ParticipantI would like to nominate Lauren Connelly for the hardest worker award for everything that she does both on and off the water. On the water Lauren has made massive improvements in slalom and trick in the last year and continues to stomp jump after jump thanks to her dedication to the sport. When she’s not skiing Lauren is always driving, coaching, or doing jump or course maintenance. Lauren is the type of person who is always looking for something to get done and taking it on with immense enthusiasm. Lauren is our current club president and has to done an incredible job working to accomplish both long term and short term team goals. Whether its designing merch, logistical planning, organizing finances, or literally anything else that needs to get done Lauren is behind it. Lauren’s unwavering drive to grow and improve our team and to better the sport of water skiing is inspiring and she pushes everyone on the team to be the best that they can be every day. Lauren doesn’t do what she does for recognition and praise, but without a doubt, every member of our team believes she is more than deserving of this award.”
