ParticipantMario D’Annunzio from Grand Valley State University. Mario has been a true beacon of light for our team, consistently uplifting and instilling confidence in every member. He reassured me of the skills and abilities we each possessed, fostering both personal and collective growth. With patience, intentionality, and honesty, he dedicated time to every skier, offering guidance with unwavering support. His leadership, encouragement, and ability to motivate through constructive coaching made one of my final years of skiing truly unforgettable. His communication, mentorship, and ability to bring out the best in others set him apart as an exceptional captain.

ParticipantSean Freitag is the definition of a Beacon of Light on our team. No matter the situation, you can always count on Sean to be smiling, laughing, and making everyone around him do the same. His energy is contagious—if Sean starts laughing, the whole dock follows. He has a way of turning even the most stressful moments into fun ones, bringing positivity and joy to every practice, tournament, and team event.
Beyond his incredible attitude, Sean is simply one of the best people to be around. He lifts up his teammates, radiates good vibes, and makes sure that everyone feels welcome and supported. He doesn’t just bring energy—he is the energy, and our team wouldn’t be the same without him.
For always brightening the room (or the dock) with his smile, his laugh, and his pure, genuine positivity, Sean Freitag is more than deserving of the Beacon of Light Award. And he’s super hot

ParticipantI would like to nominate Lucy Kneeley from Wisconsin-Madison for the beacon of light award! If you’ve been to a waterski tournament in the past 4 years, I can almost guarantee that you know Lucy. She represents Team Midwest in all the best ways; Between her iconic hot pink hair and her constant positive attitude, Lucy brings the spirit of Midwest collegiate skiing everywhere she goes! She always has a compliment and smile at the ready for anyone who needs it, regardless of what team they may be on, and I’ve never seen someone leave an interaction with her without a smile on their face. Lucy embodies everything that makes Midwest collegiate skiing so incredibly special, and I know that tournaments just wouldn’t be the same without her positivity and neon pink head of hair.
