What team had the biggest improvement, the largest growth, or posted massive scores? Nominate a team below, and let us know why you think they deserve the award!
Grand Valley- In the past couple of years I have seen GV grow a lot as a team. They always bring positive energy with their Laker spirit and are ready to bring it every time. All around they’ve put in the time and effort to help their skiers improve to be more well-rounded this past season. I greatly admire their perseverance and can’t wait to see them at Nationals sometime soon!
Nebraska easily stands to earn the “Team of the Year” award. While Nebraska lost very few seniors through the last couple of years we have still been working an growing. In the previous season (2022), UNL qualified for the national tournament, for the first time in history! The qualification in 2022 was only through the wildcard tournament. In 2023, the team has grown, pushed, and worked extremely hard to achieve the season they have. While blazing through the season, Nebraska managed to grow their team, get an automatic bid for nationals, and grow closer together. Yes, we had massive improvements in our scores individually and as a team, but this will only continue for years to come.
I want to nominate Wisconsin Madison for team of the year! The Madison ski team has had a great few years as a program, but I think this year was one of the best yet. I think the most impressive thing about the Madison ski team is the sheer size of the team and range of its skiers’ abilities. Madison brought 42 skiers to the Great Plains Conference tournament, many of whom were attending their first tournament ever! While at that tournament, we also had a number of our A team skiers place individually, and the team took second overall. There are plenty of teams with huge membership numbers, and teams with phenomenal top-level A teams, but I think what sets Madison apart is the ability to grow the sport both outwards and upwards!
