Which freshman made the biggest impact on their team this year in the MCWSA? Maybe they put up big scores, or brought in some new talent!

Be sure to tell us why you think your nomination should be selected!

Will Howard joined Nebraska Water Ski in the fall and had never skied a course before, but during the season this vibe monster was out ripping the course on the Big Daddy making 5 passes at conference starting at 21 and going up to 3@ 28 mph! Not only is he already slaloming like a pro but he’s also putting out 44ft jumps! We are psyched to have a freshy that’s as cool as a cucumber on and off the water! Next stop is to put Sir Slicky on a trick ski.

Elizabeth O’Callaghan who, as a freshman, absolutely destroyed every one of the UW-Madison women’s team records

    Spencer Hack – WMU
Spence joined the team with an energetic and open mind set! He was always willing to do anything to help the team out- on and off the water. He had only seen the course a few times pre-season and scored 69 buoys at the second tournament of the year!

    Kristen “K$” Brown- OSU

K$ is a sophomore, but due to covid this was her first season, and I can already tell that she is going to do BIG things at OSU. Kristen is an amazing skier, a great leader, has an awesome attitude, and is very knowledgable about tournament skiing. She earned the name K$ after being compared to Kristen “K$” Dammeyer, former multi-time regional overall champ and OSU captain. Kristen Brown definitely earned that nickname, as she is an amazing slalomer and tricker and will be a great leader for the team in the future. Kristen worked really hard this summer to literally double her trick score, and was hugely important on both the Slalom and trick teams. She also learned to jump, and I see her being a future 3-event super star. Her and her mom are also the MVPs of the team for bringing lunch and supporting the team off the water. Can’t wait to see what the future has in store for K$!

SOOOO many options for Rookie of the Year!

    Mary Nelson- Miami

Also wanted to throw Mary’s name into the hat! This girl is such a boss. She is a beast of a slalomer and tricker, instantly becoming her teams 5th round skier for both events. Mary dominated in tournaments, podiuming in slalom at regionals as a freshman. At great lakes fling, I was honored to get 2nd to her and to be absolutely demolished by her by like, 3 full passes. She has a great attitude and was recently elected as Miami’s new captain, and she’s going to be awesome. Cant wait to see what she does in the future!

Aidan Hughes (MSU): A career show skier, Aidan made his debut in Collegiate 3-Event waterskiing at Allentucky, where for his first jump he alarmed the entirety of the audience by ignoring all of the buoys of the jump course and eyeballing his 3/4 cut. He came a long way from Allentucky to Nationals where he podiumed for Division 2 Men’s Overall. Outside of on the water success Aidan is an active member of the MSU Water Ski team, bringing energy to the social side of this sport. Aidan was no doubt a very large contributing factor the success that our team found this year and is well deserving of an award like Rookie of the Year.
