ParticipantI would like to nominate Samantha Varness ,from Southern Illinois University, for most valuable skier. Sammy has improved so much over the season, and carried our women’s team to regionals, and then to our first nationals tournament in school history. Sammy also was extremely valuable for her teammates as well. She went to every practice and would stay until it was time to leave. She helped many of them become better skiers in practice. At tournaments Sammy would also make sure her teammates were ready to ski and would cheer them on. Sammy was just as valuable off the water as she was on the water. She worked really hard learning how to judge and score. Without Samantha on our team we most likely would not have made it to Nationals. That’s why I think Samantha Varness deserves most valuable skier!

ParticipantI would like to nominate Megan Fischette from Grand Valley for most valuable skier. Megan has been one of the biggest contributors to the team this year. She was one of our top scoring three event skiers on the team as well as placing in overalls at every local competition this past season. Not only was she a great skier this season, but she was a GREAT role model to all the freshman that joined this past season. She showed that it’s not just about how well you do, but how much fun you have doing it. As well as being a great role model she also always fulfilled her duties as a captain no matter how many complications we had with skier registration and safe sport, she was always very patient with peoples questions and always tried to find the best solutions to problems. Without Megan I feel like our team would not be where it is today, which is why she is one of the most deserving candidates for most valuable skier.

ParticipantI would like to nominate Samantha Varness from SIU. She grew so much in slalom and trick this year which resulted in her becoming the best skier on our women’s team. She always came to practice with a selfless mentality because she always wanted to see our new members enjoy practice and become better skiers. The SIU team would not be successful without people like Sammy!

ParticipantI would like to nominate Aidan Hughes. Aidan is not just a great skier, but also a great teammate. Aidan’s skiing ability speaks for itself, just based on the numbers he is clearly the best overall skier in the Midwest region. Outside of that watching him compete is a spectacle for everyone, watching him on a trick ski hypnotic the flips he throws and the runs he has created theres no wonder that he is the Midwest trick record-holder (yes he got that side-slide). Watching him jump is the cherry on top, at regionals this year he crushed his PB when he jumped 134ft where everyone stood still while watching him soar through the air. His slalom expertise is also hard to match in the midwest. As a teammate he helped to improve everyone who skied for us, whether it was a day on the river practicing or just the words you need to hear after taking a fall while jumping he was a rock for many of us, also without him we would not have made it to nationals this year. There are few people who are more deserving that Aidan for this award, which is why I hope that you take my nomination into consideration. Thank you.
