ParticipantI would like to nominate Matt Frietag from Grand Valley for the Outstanding Senior Male Award. Matt has been a great asset to our team this year by being a highly consistent teammate in all 3 events. Even though jump was his strong suit, Matt always made sure he gave time to all three events to benefit the team in the best way possible. Not only was Matt a great skier, but also an amazing president. He was very organized when it came to team planning, keeping connections with our practice lake, and sending out important information to the team. Additionally, Matt is a very humble, kind, and encouraging person to be around no matter the setting which is why he is best suited to win this award.

ParticipantI nominate Matthew Freitag from GVSU for Most Outstanding Senior Male. Yes Matthew is my brother, so I’m a little bias.. however, I also have the privilege of being close friends with other presidents and captains from different teams, and I can say that Matthew was the gold standard for presidents and seniors this year.
Matthew has far exceeded every requirement and expectation of an outstanding senior male. He was voted into presidency while also being a student in pre-med, working at the hospital downtown, and being a TA for one of his medical classes. Safe to say he was busy, but he always made time for his team and found a way to put them first.
His biggest achievement this year was getting their team a new (2017) MasterCraft Prostar!! He had countless meetings with the school and local dealer to make this deal happen. But getting a fancy boat isn’t what defines Matthew as an outstanding senior male, and it’s not what his team will remember him for. Matthew was the rock of his team. Always getting the truck and boat to the river so his team could practice, driving most of the day while leaving little time to practice himself, but still being the top skier for his team tournament after tournament. Matthew organized the Allentucky Tournament, team bonding trips, made sure his team was ready for every tournament, and acted like a true leader younger members could look up to. I’ll stop there but there’s so much more that Matthew has done that makes him the perfect nominee for Outstanding Senior Male.February 9, 2025 at 5:15 pm #56010marynelson
ParticipantRhett Bendure has been instrumental in pushing Miami’s team to their limits and the entire Midwest. Rhett never ran a pass before college and he finished out his last season running a couple at 35 off 36 mph at nationals. Rhett is more than deserving of this honor. Rhett pushes people and has tokened the word ‘grit’ which is really the best word to describe Rhett in general. Whether it’s fixing someone’s ski, changing the oil on the boat, or giving tips to new skiers and old, Rhett is always around and is always trying to improve the team. Miami Waterski would not be where it is today without Rhett.

ParticipantI would like to nominate Ethan Jost for Most Outstanding Senior Male. Not only is Ethan an incredible skier with a lightning quick onside (Pro comparison: Brando Caruso’s 3 ball at Miami Pro last year iykyk), and the most jumps landed while wearing jeans in all of the Midwest, he is also an incredible person. If you’ve spent any time around him you know that everybody calls him Smiley, for his relentless optimism and joyful attitude he brings to everything he does. Smiley during his college career spent two years as our club president, during which he brought our club from 10 members to 30 and put in countless hours and sleepless nights into making Iowa State the best team that we could be. He has also been one of our boat drivers for several years and he spends every single day on the water coaching and driving for hours at a time. He has sacrificed countless sets of his own for the sake of others and he has pulled at least 90% of the PRs on our team. His passion, his attention to detail, and his constant enthusiasm are qualities that I believe make Ethan “Smiley” Jost a perfect candidate for Most Outstanding Senior Male.
