ParticipantMason Letcher has been an integral A team member since his freshman year, consistently pushing his limits despite facing a setback with a knee injury during the summer leading into his junior year. He was determined to overcome his challenges. He recovered from the knee injury and resumed jumping in the current season. During his senior year, Mason joined Century Club. He achieved an impressive jump of 102 feet, securing a commendable 3rd place in the Miami Waterski Records. Not only did he excel in jumping, but Mason also made a mark in the Miami waterski slalom record, securing 2nd place with two buoys at 36mph 35 off. Beyond his achievements, Mason plays a pivotal role in fostering the growth and development of our team. His dedication extends to supporting new members in reaching their goals, highlighting his importance as a mentor and contributor to the team’s overall success.

ParticipantBrandon Goodwin’s senior year was nothing short of remarkable. Transitioning from struggling to complete side slides in his junior year, he demonstrated exceptional progress by executing an impressive 1240-point run at regionals this fall. This achievement not only secured his place in second in Miami Waterski’s history but also ensured his continuous improvement. Brandon expanded his horizons by contributing to the A team in trick skiing and excelling in slalom. His efforts culminated in achieving a personal best at the end of the year of 4 @36 mph, 22 off. Beyond his accomplishments, Brandon played a crucial role in motivating and driving the team toward success. His support throughout the season inspired the team to work diligently and set goals. Brandon Goodwin has undeniably proven to be a valuable asset to Miami Waterski, impacting individual and team achievements.

ParticipantOver the course of this past year, Parker Worley stands out as the vital thread that binds us together. Transitioning to the A team across all three events, Parker not only met but exceeded expectations, showcasing a level of dedication and skill that left a lasting mark on our collective experience. His commitment extended beyond scheduled practices, forging genuine connections with club members and even dedicating lunch hours to skiing with teammates, creating an environment of shared passion and camaraderie. Parker’s inclusive nature welcomed newcomers with open arms, fostering a sense of belonging within the team. Beyond his skills on the water, he played a crucial role as the team’s treasurer, not only fulfilling his duties but also mentoring his teammate, Colin, ensuring a smooth transition for the position. In essence, Parker’s presence on the KU water ski team has not only made the atmosphere enjoyable but has been a driving force behind our shared motivation and success.

ParticipantEvan Williams
Evan had a great season his first season on the team as a junior, but he stepped it up his senior year and became one of our most valuable 3-event skiers. He was our 4 for 4 for 4 (4th round for each event). We needed more guy jumpers this season, so he jumped for the first time at the jump clinic right before the season. He progressed quickly to single cutting, and we could count on big stomps from him every tournament. He consistently slalomed close to his best every tournament. He is a well-rounded skier, but he especially excelled in trick this season. After his dedication this summer, he locked down his flip. He stomped it when we needed it most at both conferences and regionals. He tied for second place for trick at conferences this season. Evan had a very successful senior season and greatly contributed to our team’s score in every tournament!

ParticipantSean Freitag
Sean is an important part of our team. He worked really hard last summer to get better at skiing and even bought his own jumpers. During his presidency, he really helped get our site at SIU in shape. He comes out to every event and loves waterskiing and the people behind it. He talks with everyone and makes friends everywhere. He is the best person to be around and one that is super fun with watch ski. Sean set up our team for success, and when he’s gone (which will suck) we will have some big shows to fill!

ParticipantI would like to nominate Sam Strachan from UW Madison for Outstanding Senior Male this year. He was an overall A team skier for his past few years on the team, and he was a key contributor to the team for his entire collegiate career. Where many skiers choose to specialize, I would classify Strachan as a true overall skier. He was a top skier in all three events, slaloming consistently into 22′ and 28′ off, tricking well over 1000+ points (he’s a two flip kinda guy), and this year at regionals he broke into the century club with a 100 foot jump! Sam Strachan has been an integral figure in Madison waterskiing for as long as he’s been on the team, and while we’re sad to see him go, we couldn’t be more proud of everything he has accomplished.
