ParticipantMary Nelson is the kind of skier every team wishes they had. Even though she’s not on my team, her presence on the dock is impossible to ignore. She brings an infectious energy that lifts up everyone around her, always cheering people on, offering support, and making sure the dock is a place of encouragement rather than pressure.
Beyond her positivity, Mary is an incredible skier who consistently pushes the limits of her abilities and represents Miami of Ohio with skill and sportsmanship. She’s not just focused on her own performance—she’s there for everyone, whether it’s helping out with equipment, giving words of encouragement, or celebrating others’ successes as much as her own.
Mary exemplifies what it means to be an outstanding senior female skier. Her dedication, leadership, and unwavering support for the entire collegiate ski community make her more than deserving of this recognition.

ParticipantMary Nelson has been a huge component of everything Miami Waterski, not only as a record-breaking skier (see MVP post) but also as a dedicated leader who has shaped the team’s success and culture. As a former team president, Mary played a crucial role in strengthening the team’s foundation, fostering a supportive and competitive environment, and helping Miami Waterski reach new heights.
Her impact on the water is just as impressive as her leadership. Mary holds the school records in Slalom and Jump, proving herself as one of the most accomplished skiers in Miami history. In Trick, she secured the second highest score of all time, only behind the current Midwest record holder, further showcasing her well-rounded talent across all three disciplines. Her performances have been instrumental in Miami’s success at both regional and national levels.
But Mary’s contributions go far beyond her scores. She has been a mentor, a motivator, and a driving force behind the team’s growth. Her leadership helped shape Miami Waterski into the team it is today as well as Ohio waterski as a whole, inspiring those around her to push themselves while always keeping the spirit of the sport alive.
For her outstanding performances, unwavering leadership, and the lasting impact she has had on the team, Mary Nelson is more than deserving of the Most Outstanding Senior Female award.

ParticipantI would like to nominate Cal O’Callaghan as the most outstanding senior female. Not only have they won countless medals in all 3 events but they’ve been involved in just about every aspect of our ski team and collegiate skiing. Last year, Cal pulled more practice sets than the rest of the team combined. They also maintain connections throughout the waterski community to help us gain connections and grow the sport. This includes getting the team sets on private lakes as well as helping plan tournaments like Minnesota’s shredfest. On top of this they are always involved with team events and really enjoy watching their teammates improve. They have pulled sets for everyone on the team and sent everyone off the dock at tournaments for the last 4 years. Madison is a pretty big team but I know that Cal has made a big impact on everyone’s skiing abilities and put the team culture in a really positive place.

ParticipantI believe Cal O’Callaghan is the most deserving recipient of this award. As a freshman, I watched in awe as skiers like Cal ripped through the slalom course and threw tricks I could only dream of. Even though she is not on my team, over the past three years, I’ve seen her podium countless times, but what stands out most is how she treats everyone around her.
This season, I had the privilege of getting to know Cal better and she is such a kind, selfless person. Even with all of her accomplishments and the attention that comes with them, she remains grounded and approachable. It’s clear to see, just after one conversation, how genuine she is. Cal’s presence on and off the dock creates an environment where everyone feels valued and motivated to push their limits.
She doesn’t just excel in her events; she elevates everyone around her. Cal is the kind of person you look up to, and for all these reasons, she is more than deserving of Most Outstanding Senior Female.
